What is LASIK?

LASIK surgery is done as an outpatient procedure and takes about 7-10 minutes per eye, though you can expect to be at the surgery center for about 2 hours. Topical anesthetic eye drops are applied so you feel little to no pain or discomfort. During surgery, the LASIK surgeon uses the most advanced laser technology, the Wavelight® FS200 laser, to create a thin flap in the cornea. The cornea flap is then lifted up, allowing another state-of-the-art laser, the Wavelight® Allegretto excimer laser, to reshape the cornea for the actual correction of vision. The eye will heal naturally without the use of stitches. Safe and virtually pain-free, LASIK has a quick recovery time with most patients experiencing improvement in vision within the same day or by the next day.

Allegreto Wavefront LASIK

At Chester County Eye Care, our LASIK surgeons use the advanced Allegretto Wavefront Optimized^® laser technology to perform vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Using Perfect Pulse Technology^®, this Wavefront Optimized^® laser uses controlled, rapid pulses to deliver a safe and precise procedure. For even more precision, the laser utilizes eye tracking technology to follow every eye movement during the procedure. This eye tracking technology monitors eye movement at 200 times per second, each time verifying the eye is in the correct position before the laser delivers its pulse. If the eye moves and is no longer in alignment, the laser will automatically stop and wait to deliver the next pulse until the eye is in the correct position again.

The high-speed Allegretto laser is the fastest laser available in the US and only takes a few seconds to complete vision corrections. After the procedure, most patients see an improvement in vision immediately, bringing the clear vision you’ve always desired and ensuring less dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
