At Chester County Eye Care, our experienced LASIK surgeon, Dr. John DeStafeno, offers the revolutionary 100% Blade-Free LASIK—a safe technology that provides the most effective and accurate results. Whether you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, our ophthalmologist will work with you to achieve your best vision outcome.

Wavefront Blade-Free LASIK*

Blade-free Wavefront LASIK is a popular laser vision correction surgery and is more safe and precise than ever before. Chester County Eye Care offers this innovative technology to our patients to ensure a higher level of safety and the best possible vision outcome.

Using the fastest laser available, a corneal flap is created during the first step of the LASIK procedure.  After the flap is complete, another laser is used to treat the refractive error in each individual eye. This laser uses advanced technology to deliver controlled rapid pulses for a safe and precise procedure. It also has the ability to track every eye movement at 200 times per second and will stop if the eye moves out of its correct position.

The Procedure Includes:

  • Wavefront blade-free LASIK
  • Follow up visits for up to 1 year
  • 2 Year Vision Pledge**

Blade-free LASIK is the most sophisticated and accurate LASIK technology available today. Surgeons can treat a wider variety of patients including those with thin corneas. Provides an “all laser” procedure; eliminating the hand-held blade used in conventional LASIK.

Benefits of Wavefront LASIK with Chester County Eye Care:

  • Freedom from glasses and contacts
  • Improved vision
  • Immediate results – most patients see clearly again either the same day or the next day
  • Little to no pain or discomfort
  • No longer spend your money on glasses, contacts, or contact lens solution

*Results may vary.

**The CCEC 2 Year Vision Pledge. Our goal is for all of our patients to maintain the best vision possible. That’s why we stand behind our surgery with our Vision Pledge. If an enhancement is needed to maintain vision results, qualified patients will receive one without charge, within the first 2 years of vision correction surgery.

LASIK Surgery Alternatives

If you are interested in laser vision correction but are not an ideal candidate for LASIK, then there are other procedures you may consider: PRK or Refractive Lens Exchange. Our LASIK surgeon, Dr. John DeStafeno, will guide you in selecting the option that is most appropriate for you and your vision goals.

Wavefront PRK (LASIK Alternative)

PRK differs from LASIK in that it does not require a corneal flap and instead the procedure is performed on the surface of the eye. However, PRK does use the same laser as LASIK to treat the refractive error.

The Procedure Includes:
  • Wavefront PRK
  • Follow up visits for up to 1 year
  • 2 Year Vision Pledge**

PRK is an excellent option for patients who are not good candidates for LASIK. Visual results are excellent and comparable to traditional LASIK procedure.

Refractive Lens Exchange (LASIK Alternative)

If you're not a candidate for either of the above, blah blah blah, see below.

After the age of 40, the lens in the eye starts to become dysfunctional, ultimately making it difficult for most people to read up close. This is a process known as presbyopia, and by age 50 the majority of people experience significant blurring at near. Refractive lens exchange, or RLE, involves the removal of the dysfunctional natural lens of the eye and replacement with an intraocular lens (IOL).

LASIK Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that navigating LASIK and identifying if you're a good candidate for the surgery can feel overwhelming. To help you feel informed and confident, we've compiled answers to some of the most common questions about our services, treatments, and what to expect during your visit.

If you do not find the answer to your question, please contact us for more information.

What is the Cost of LASIK?

Please contact our office for the most up-to-date pricing. Our LASIK package includes Dr. DeStafeno personally performing your evaluation, surgery, and follow-up examinations. We believe your surgeon should be involved in your entire vision correction experience.

Does Insurance Cover LASIK?

Since LASIK is usually considered an elective procedure (non-medical), most insurance plans do not cover the cost. You may be able to utilize your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover a portion or all of the procedure. However, it is important to verify coverage details with your insurance provider to ensure eligibility.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

Anyone dependent on glasses and contact lenses who is at least 18 years old may benefit from the LASIK procedure. LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. A complete LASIK evaluation with our surgeon will determine if you’re a good candidate.

How do I prepare for my consultation?

Soft contact lens wearers should not wear contacts for 5 days and hard contact lens wearers should not wear lenses 3-4 weeks prior to the consultation. Contact lenses cause changes to the cornea that affect measurements needed to determine your candidacy for LASIK.

Why is Blade-Free LASIK the preferred procedure at this time?

The Blade-Free LASIK procedure is extremely accurate, has fewer complications, and treats a broader range of patients with a more rapid and comfortable recovery time than other refractive surgery procedures.

Am I awake during the procedure and will I feel any pain?

You are fully awake during the LASIK procedure. Your eyes will be numbed with topical eye drops so you should not feel any pain. Most patients report very minimal discomfort with only a feeling of slight pressure on the eye.

How long does the procedure take?

The actual laser vision correction procedure takes about five to ten minutes for each eye. You can expect to be at the laser center for approximately 1-2 hours including pre-operative preparation and post-operative examination

How long is the recovery time and what should I expect during this time?

Recovery from LASIK is very rapid. Most patients see a marked improvement within 12-24 hours and most can return to normal daily activities the next day.

Patients who have PRK will have a longer recovery, as the procedure starts by removing the outer layer of cells on the cornea. A bandage contact lens will be placed for comfort, but it takes 3-4 days for the cornea to start to heal. Vision will be blurry for the first week, and will get better daily after that.

What are the risks?

The risk of a serious complication arising from refractive surgery is very low. LASIK is one of the safest surgical procedures in all of medicine. All risks will be explained to the patient at the time of their consultation.

Will I need to wear reading glasses after LASIK?

Most patients will not need distance glasses after LASIK. If you are over 40 years old, the majority of patients will need reading glasses unless a technique termed monovision is performed.

Is LASIK considered permanent or does it need to be repeated?

LASIK is very accurate and often does not need to be performed again. If a patient’s prescription changes after LASIK, an enhancement, or touch up, may be needed. This is more common in patients who are moderately to extremely nearsighted or have a lot of astigmatism before their initial procedure.
