Am I a candidate for LASIK?
Many people are great candidates for LASIK. LASIK can correct near sightedness, far sightedness, and astigmatism. To determine if you are a good candidate, a thorough eye evaluation is required. Our LASIK surgeon, Dr. John DeStafeno, will perform a complimentary evaluation which includes various diagnostic tests such as corneal topography and corneal pachymetry.
Typically, good candidates for LASIK are 18 years of age or older and have had a stable eyeglass prescription for at least 1 year. People with certain eye conditions, such as dry eye, cataracts, and thin corneas, may not be a good candidate. Our surgeon will discuss whether these factors apply to you at your evaluation. If it is determined you are not a candidate for LASIK, there are other laser vision correction procedures, such as PRK, that may benefit you.
