Dr. DeStafeno publishes article in Ophthalmology

Following his clinical research on the effect of the medication Flomax on the iris, Dr John J. DeStafeno was published in the September 2010 issue of the journal Ophthalmology, the magazine of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. DeStafeno co-authored the article: The Effect of α1-Adrenergic Receptor Antagonist Tamsulosin (Flomax) on Iris Dilator Smooth Muscle Anatomy. Flomax use leads to more difficult and an increased risk of complications during cataract surgery. Dr. DeStafeno’s research may shed light on the pathophysiology of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome and make cataract surgery more safe and successful for these patients.
