Restoring your Vision: Choosing the Right Lens in Cataract Surgery
Cataracts are a clouding in the lens of the eye, which cause a decrease in clear vision, and can result in blindness if left untreated. If you are one of the 22 million Americans over the age of 40 affected by cataracts, determining which cataract surgery option is best for you is a decision you and your surgeon will eventually make. During cataract surgery, your natural lens will likely need to be replaced with an intraocular lens implant (IOL) so that you can obtain good vision after the cataract has been removed.
Advanced Technology IOL Surgery is often the recommended option for a number of reasons. Compared to Conventional IOL Cataract Surgery, Advanced Technology IOL Cataract Surgery can offer increased freedom and functionality in visibility range, as patients are typically able to see better from both afar and up close, with less dependency on glasses or contact lenses. By contrast, while conventional cataract surgery patients are often able to see well in the distance without glasses, they will likely be dependent on glasses or contacts for many daily activities requiring near-distance vision, such as reading, paying bills, and working on the computer.
Three types of lens implants offered for Advanced Technology Cataract Surgery here at Chester County Eye Associates include:
- Crystalens®
- ReSTOR®
- Tecnis MF®
Crystalens® replicates the eye’s natural process of flexing and accommodating in order to see objects in the environment at many levels of distance. Both ReSTOR® and Tecnis MF® have multiple focal points so patients are able to see well at a variety of distances.
Our cataract surgeons believe these lenses offer most patients the best possible opportunity to reduce their dependency on glasses following cataract surgery. If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, one of our experienced eye doctors will meet with you to discuss your options and determine which Advanced Technology IOL will be best for your needs.
